It will probably work but we haven't seen one yet. If you try it please post.

I just tried connecting to my zen stone using a macbook (osx 10.4.10) but it wasn't detected by XNJB. Here's the relevant info:

Version: 10.11
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: CREATIVE
Product ID: 0x4154
Vendor ID: 0x041e

Thanks for the info. I've added it to this

http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/fi ... bug.dmg.gz

Does it work? If not, can you run it in the console and paste the output? The FAQ tells you how to do this.

$ /Applications/XNJB.app/Contents/MacOS/XNJB; exit
2007-07-09 19:10:37.402 XNJB[1393] processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-09 19:10:37.490 XNJB[1393] returned from processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-09 19:10:37.490 XNJB[1393] going round queue loop again...
2007-07-09 19:10:37.502 XNJB[1393] processing njbQueueItem
LIBMTP_Get_First_Device: No Devices Attached
2007-07-09 19:10:38.075 XNJB[1393] returned from processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-09 19:10:38.138 XNJB[1393] going round queue loop again...

after this, I tried unplugging/re-plug the stone and trying to connect to it again, but I get the same result.

also, there's an indicator LED that blinks (indicating that the player is charging). After I try to connect, to it using XNJB, the LED stops blinking. I need to unplug/replug to get it to start blinking again. I checked System Profiler to see what happens: If I run XNJB from the console, I get the above console read out and the light continues to flash - system profiler still sees the device; If I try to connect using the XNJB GUI (clicking on the "connect" button), the same console read out appears, but the LED stops flashing and system profiler no longer shows the stone as a connected USB device.

Hope that helps.

Is the player turned on while you do this? Have you tried different USB ports?

I've just looked at the Creative website for this and it looks to me like the Stone is not an MTP device.

What software do you use to connect to it on Windows? Do you use Windows Media Player or does it just appear as a new disk?

Also trying to use Zen Stone on OS X

Postby pix_climber » Tue Jul 10, 2007 11:35 pm

Trying to use Zen Stone on my Mini Mac. The Zen Stone is seen on the USB tree of system profiler, but doesn't appear as a volume, and not seen by XJNB.

The XJNB debug program give output:
2007-07-10 23:31:35.027 XNJB[2296] processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-10 23:31:35.323 XNJB[2296] returned from processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-10 23:31:35.323 XNJB[2296] going round queue loop again...
2007-07-10 23:31:35.340 XNJB[2296] processing njbQueueItem
LIBMTP_Get_First_Device: No Devices Attached
2007-07-10 23:31:36.224 XNJB[2296] returned from processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-10 23:31:36.277 XNJB[2296] going round queue loop again...

But my Zen continues to flash its LED after trying this, showing charging is continuing.

The Zen works fine on my Windows XP laptop. Appears as a volume when plugged in to USB. No need to use Windows Media Player (& I haven't tried).

Update

Postby pix_climber » Wed Jul 11, 2007 12:17 am

Just rebooted Mini Mac with Zen Stone attached. It now appears on desktop and System Profiler gives more info:
ZEN Stone:
Capacity: 921.5 MB
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: Yes
BSD Name: disk1
Version: 10.21
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: CREATIVE
OS9 Drivers: No
Product ID: 0x4154
Serial Number: F03A092D628D889D
S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported
Vendor ID: 0x041e
Volumes:
ZEN Stone:
Capacity: 921.43 MB
Writable: Yes
File System: MS-DOS FAT32
BSD Name: disk1s1
Mount Point: /Volumes/ZEN Stone

The debug version of XNJB now reports:
2007-07-11 00:13:49.670 XNJB[322] processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-11 00:13:49.921 XNJB[322] returned from processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-11 00:13:49.921 XNJB[322] going round queue loop again...
2007-07-11 00:13:49.928 XNJB[322] processing njbQueueItem
Device 1 (VID=041e and PID=4154) is a Creative Zen Stone.
usb_claim_interface(): Unknown error: 0
LIBMTP PANIC: Unable to initialize device 1
LIBMTP PANIC: configure_usb_devices() error code: 7 on line 1755
LIBMTP_Get_First_Device: Error Connecting
2007-07-11 00:13:50.863 XNJB[322] returned from processing njbQueueItem
2007-07-11 00:13:50.908 XNJB[322] going round queue loop again...

and still says no NJB device found.

Does this explain what's going on? Will XNJB be able to integrate the Zen Stone with iTunes?

I don't turn the player on when I connect it to my computer, but it automatically enters into charging mode (flashing LED).

When I connect it to my WinXP computer, it shows up as a removable disk. If I start transferring songs to it, the flashing indicator will change from yellow (charging) to green (transferring).

I have not tried turning the player "on" when connected to my computer.

OK - the Zen Stone is not MTP. It uses the UMS protocol and shows up as a removable drive. So it won't work with XNJB but you can just drag and drop files to the drive.

So no Stone-iTunes integration?

Postby pix_climber » Wed Jul 11, 2007 7:08 pm

So does that mean there's no way to integrate the ZEN Stone with iTunes?

Unless it comes up in iTunes when you connect it, no.

ZEN Stone works with iTunes without XNJB

Postby pix_climber » Thu Jul 12, 2007 1:15 am

I just discovered that my ZEN Stone appears on iTunes (Mac version) as a Nomad MuVo. This is without using XNJB or any other software/drivers to make this happen. So not only is the ZEN Stone a mass storage device that can be filled by just drag-n-drop, you can choose to use iTunes if you wish. There's no 'random fill' facility in iTunes (as you get with a shuffle), but random filling can be done by using iTunes 'party shuffle' feature - just create a new party shuffle list then drag it to the Nomad MuVo icon. Easy.

unbelievable...

I tried disconnecting my usb hub and then plugging in the zen stone... works without a problem... the drive mounts and even shows up in itunes like pix_climber said.

I tried switching the ports i connected the hub on and the port i connected the stone... both of the two ports on my macbook performed identically. if the hub was attached, then the player does not mount... once I detached the hub, everything works fine. super random.
